Stylist, Creative Director and Costume Designer Freya Thomas-Taylor graduated from BA Fashion Design at Kingston School of Art in 2023. Since then she has established herself in the industry through freelance styling and costume design for short films, publications, artists and musicians.
Freya’s styling and design work embodies her love of visual storytelling and wearable art. She combines elements from both costume and contemporary design, placing emphasis on historical dress and sculptural silhouettes, and combining them with an innovative use of unconventional materials and objects.
A central thread in Freya’s work is an ongoing exploration of motherhood, pregnancy, and the female body - often approached through themes of transformation, constraint, and resistance. Her performance and installation piece Rage Milk explores the complex and often conflicting bond between mother and child, centring on the desire to give everything to one’s child while gradually sacrificing oneself in the process.
This thematic focus continues in her filmmaking debut, The Dancing Plague, which expands on ideas of feminine rage and rebellion. Set within a medieval narrative, the film follows a woman breaking free from societal expectations to live on her own terms, confronting enduring issues of bodily autonomy, the cultural subjugation of women, and the consequences they face when they refuse to submit.
Freya has also worked as lead costume designer on short films including Frayed, Passaging, And Then Gone, and Micellar Water. Her editorial work has been featured in publications such as KALTBLUT, POLYESTER, PAP, METALHEAD, CRACK, FAULT, and NOCTIS. Alongside this, she has collaborated with musicians including Allie X, Mary in the Junkyard, The Horrors, Empara Mi, Emily Makis, The New Eves, and Chloe Qisha.
